Doris S. Balmer, 89, of Elizabethtown, peacefully entered the Church Triumphant surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, February 22, 2018 at her home following a brief illness. Born in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late Hurl B. and Catherine H. Landis Shank. She was the wife of the late Neal F. Balmer for 50 years prior to his passing in 2002.

Doris was a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown where she was active in a weekly women’s Bible study. She was a 1949 graduate of Elizabethtown College. Doris combined her love for children and passion for cooking into serving as food service manager of the child care ministry of her church for many years. During the time her husband served in the military, she supported him by living in several US states as well as foreign countries.

She is survived by four children, Blake K., husband of Heidi K. Kunsman Balmer, of Elizabethtown, Mark L., husband of Marie R. Grillone Balmer, of Pamplico, SC, Joel D. Balmer of Elizabethtown, and Nicol A., wife of Bryan A. Fettro, of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two siblings, Jay, husband of Joan Shank, of Maryland, and Julia Aldenfer of Arizona. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Anthony C. Balmer; a grandson, Neal F. Balmer, II; and two siblings, Harold and Reba Shank.
