Ruth Arlene Martin

Ruth A. Martin, age 91, of Lititz, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Luther Acres. Born on February 23, 1935, in Rapho Township, Lancaster County, PA, Ruth was the daughter of the late Marvin M. and Miriam (Brubaker) Messick.

 

Ruth was a graduate of the former Mount Joy High School, Class of 1953. Over the years, she was employed by the former Manheim National Bank, worked as a private personal care assistant, and later served as an aide in Personal Care at Luther Acres.

 

Ruth was a member of the Lititz Church of the Brethren for over 60 years. Ruth loved to craft. Among her favorite crafting activities were crocheting, needlepoint, quilling, and macramé. Over the years, she made many beautiful afghans, plant hangers, and wall decorations.

 

One of Ruth’s greatest joys was taking bus trips with her sister Jean, as well as with her friends. Some of her favorite trips were to the Von Trapp Family Lodge and Resort in Stowe, VT; Wheeling, WV; and Ocean City, NJ.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lewis (Rob) of Middletown, DE, and her grandsons, Cole Lewis and Colin Lewis. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mardell Messick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Messick; her sister, Miriam Jean Graybill; her brother-in-law, Melvin Graybill; and her former husband, Carl Martin.

 

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Luther Acres and Masonic Village Hospice. Their compassion and care were a blessing to Ruth and to her family during these last few months.

 

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 20, at 11:00 AM at East Fairview Cemetery, 1187 Fairview Rd., Manheim, PA 17545. There will be no viewing. A time of gathering, reflection, and reminiscing will follow at 12:30 PM at the Lititz Springs Inn, 14 E. Main St., Lititz, PA 17543.
