Dean R. Doster, age 72, of Akron, PA, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021. Dean was born in Lititz, PA on January 19, 1949 to the late Doris J. Doster. He lived in Lititz with his mother and maternal grandparents, Robert W. and Helen (Adams) Doster, all of whom helped to raise him. He was surrounded in love by two aunts, an uncle, five cousins and their extended families. Each were an important part of Dean’s life. Born with cerebral palsy, Dean led a challenging life, but with the support of family and friends, worked to lead as normal of a life as possible. He had many fond memories as a child spending time with his grandpa Doster and listening for the trains to roll past his Locust Street home, fostering a lifelong love of trains. As a youth, he enjoyed going to local fairs and carnivals, playing the prize wheels, and coming home with more stuffed animals and other prizes that one would think possible. He enjoyed occasional trips to Atlantic City with his cousins to walk the boardwalk, play arcade games, and even pull the slot machines in one of the casinos. Like any youngster, Dean was known to get into some occasional but harmless mischief (usually involving his young cousins) resulting in a phone call from a concerned neighbor to his mother or grandmother. In one instance in particular, the boys thought it would be a good idea to go to the top of a sloped parking area and together ride his wheelchair down to the bottom and turn before reaching the creek at the bottom. The laws of physics ensured unanticipated speed such that the only way to avoid the creek was to turn sharply thereby overturning the wheelchair. With no harm to any of the daredevils, his mother chalked it up to boys being boys. As Dean and his cousins grew into adults, they were able to go on more substantial adventures and trips together. Dean has a lifelong love and respect of Lancaster County farms. To help give him a new perspective on those farms, his cousins Rob and Ann arranged for a small airplane ride over the area. The views were a mix of amazement in seeing the farms from above and sadness as it was easier to see how housing and retail developments were cutting into the farmland he loved so much. Together they went on other trips that included Walt Disney World, Washington DC, Las Vegas, and train ride to New York City. Considering his physical limitations, Dean was fortunate to see so many sites and experience parts of America beyond his hometown. Eventually, Dean’s physical condition made it necessary for him to move to Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron. As a result of his infectious personality and sense of humor, he quickly made many friends of both residents and staff. He gained a degree of independence by acquiring and learning to use a motorized wheelchair. For the first time in his life, he was more or less free to go where he wanted, when he wanted. His cousins continued to visit him frequently to take him on outings. He often asked to return to the two homes in Lititz where he grew up. He enjoyed reminiscing about the times he spent there listening for the next train and generally running about town. Most often the outings involved going to the train station in Lebanon where he would sit all afternoon waiting for trains to pass. As each one approached, he would feverishly signal to them to blow their whistle and more often than not, they obliged with several toots and usually a big wave or thumbs-up. Dean was their biggest fan and vice versa. Those outings were particularly important to Dean and so dealing with the new normal resulting from COVID was incredibly hard on him. We were fortunate that Maple Farm made video chats available since it was our only connection to Dean for more than a year. Those virtual visits were so important to Dean and us although no substitute for his trips to the see the trains. We were fortunate to have taken him to Lebanon one last time to see the trains in April, shortly before he passed away. Living Dean’s life for one day would be unimaginable to us, yet for over 72 years, he lived his life with a positive attitude and sense of humor that is nothing less than confounding. He also had a heart of gold – he always thought about others before himself. Whenever there was a new child born into the family Dean simply wanted to know that the baby was born healthy, and not “like him”. Dean was born short-changed by life but made everyone around him feel like a million. He will live in the hearts of all who knew him for all time. Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MY TRIBUTE GIFT FOUNDATION OR ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, SERVICE PROVIDERS, AND AGENTS (THE "FOUNDATION PARTIES") BE LIABLE FOR ANY: (i) INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, COMPENSATORY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; (ii) DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF INCOME, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF DATA OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY; (iii) CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES; OR (iv) OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS OF USE, THE WEBSITE OR ANY LINKED SITE. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
