Obituary of Jere A. Hoffman
Jere Alan Hoffman, 81, of Manheim, PA, formally of Bethlehem, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, morning, February 11, 2025, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim. He was born August 10, 1943, in Manheim, and was the third son of the late Richard E. and Florence B. (Weidman) Hoffman.
Jere is survived by his brother, Jim (Erica); his nephews, Rick (Donna), Rob (Ann), Randy (Kiersten), and Derek (Michelle). He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Donald.
Jere graduated with the MCHS class of 1961. He went on to serve with the U.S. Air Force in Peshawar, Pakistan during the time of U-2 reconnaissance flights and in Alaska as part of the Alaskan Command at the time of the Great Alaska earthquake in 1964. He went on to have a long, successful career in computer systems.
Family was important to Jere his entire life. His nephews have fond memories of joking together at mealtimes along with his parents and brothers. When their lives were separated by miles, Jere always found ways to stay in touch and remind them that they were in his thoughts and an important part of his life.
Jere’s church, St. Paul’s UCC in Manheim, was also a very important part of his life since childhood. Even while living in Bethlehem, he never failed to attend services when he was in the area visiting family. The members of his church were an extension of his family. When faced with the difficult reality that a care home was in his future, the thought of being close to these friends, many of whom are also at the same care home, gave him great comfort and relief. Being closer to these friends gave him reason to look forward to being there.
Jere was a very reserved person with a caring nature to those around him. He was a warm person with a wonderful sense of humor that made him a joy to be around. Jere will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 50 North Main Street, Manheim. The family will receive guests at a visitation from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. All are invited to a time of light refreshments following the service. Private interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org), Disabled American Veterans (dav.org), Paralyzed Veterans of America (pva.org) and St. Paul’s UCC (stpaulsuccmanheim.org).
