Obituary of J. David Brubaker

J. David Brubaker, 65, of Lititz, PA, passed away on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025 after battling cancer.  He was the husband of Martha J. (Hershey) Brubaker for 44 years.

He was the son of the late H. Elmer and Rachel Bucher Brubaker.

After graduating from Warwick High School in 1977, Dave began painting with his father and began his own business, Brubaker Painting and Paperhanging, in 1982.  In 2009, he was called to the ministry at Middle Creek Church of the Brethren.  He began serving as chaplain at Dutch Valley Foods in Myerstown in 2012.  Dave traveled to Haiti and Mexico many times with Grace Mission (Nebraska) participating and leading work and ministry teams, as well as serving on their leadership board.

Dave had a passion for life and a love for people.  He loved his family, friends, and those he just met.  That love came from his deep faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.  His greatest joy was being a friend, listening to others, being a hard worker, and helping others in whatever ways he could.  Dave was a storyteller with the ability to present truth from the Bible in an understandable way.  He also enjoyed living life on his five-acre farm – fishing, water slides, snow tubing, ice skating, dirt bike and go kart riding.  He also delighted in the smiles from raising sheep and goats and whatever fun game or activity he could create in order to give others joy.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by a son, Kevin; a brother, Dr. Michael, husband of Linda Brubaker, of Lancaster; and a brother-in-law, Merle Becker of New Holland.  Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Janet Becker and Julia Shenk and her husband, Jerry, and their family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, March 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Middle Creek Church, 351 Middle Creek Road, Lititz, PA.  Interment in the adjoining cemetery will be private.  The family will receive guests during a viewing at the church on Friday evening, February 28 from 5-8:00 PM.  There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the service on Saturday.  However, all are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the service where opportunity will be given to share memories of and stories about Dave.  To express a condolence with the family or for additional information, visit www.spencefuneralservices.com.
