Obituary of Ruth W. Gamber

Ruth Whisler Gamber, 91 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, March 4, 2025 at Landis Homes.  Born in Mount Joy Twp., she was the daughter of the late Jonas H. and Elsie Greiner Whisler.  She was the wife of the late Arthur B. Gamber.

 

Ruth spent the early part of her life in the Elizabethtown area during which time she was employed by Continental Press for 16 years.  She was active in the Elizabethtown Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday school, VBS, and was involved with various programs.

 

In 1982, she married Arthur Gamber and moved to Leola.  She was a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church where she continued her church involvement.  She worked at Lancaster Labs for almost 28 years.  She volunteered at Mennonite Historical Society, was involved with Mennonite Home auxiliary and the Lancaster Conference Junior Girls activities.  Ruth had many hobbies throughout her lifetime and enjoyed making many friends as a vendor at flea markets.

 

She is survived by five stepchildren, Joanne (Richard) Markley, Emma Jean (Leonard) Fitzmaurice, Geraldine (David) Charles, Dale (Phyllis) Gamber, and Darlene Fenstermacher (the late Dennis) and her partner Peter Omaggio, all of Lancaster; 10 step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; and seven nieces and nephews, Jean (the late Tom) Koser of Millerton, Stanley (Norma) Zeager of Bainbridge, Paul (Linda) Swanger of Elizabethtown, Marian (Donald) Brubaker of Landisville, Herman (Susan) Zeager of Bainbridge, Alma (Dan) Shoemaker of Bainbridge, and Rachel (David) Myers of Elizabethtown.  She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Nora Zeager, Suie Whisler, Amos Whisler, and Mabel Swanger; and a nephew, Gerald (Joyce) Whisler of Elizabethtown.

 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the West Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.  Private interment will be in Elizabethtown Mennonite Cemetery.  The family will receive guests at Landis Home during a luncheon immediately following the service.  If desired, contributions may be made to the caring fund at Landis Homes.  To express a condolence with the family visit www.spencefuneralservices.com.
