Obituary of Barbara H. Black

Barbara H. Black, 87, of Lititz, PA, surrounded by her loving family, went home to be with her Lord on Friday afternoon, March 28, 2025, at Moravian Manor, after a brief illness. Born in Royersford, she was the only child of the late Ira J. and Hilda Stepp Hilborn. She was the wife of Ronald H. Black of Lititz for 66 years on October 11. Ronald and Barbara lived most of their married life and raised their children in the Spring City and Pottstown areas.

Prior to moving to Lititz, Barbara was an active member of Royersford United Methodist Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Spring-Ford High School. She was a homemaker and fulltime mom until her children graduated from high school. She then joined her husband’s insurance business, Ron Black Agency, where she and Ron worked side by side for more than 25 years before she retired.

In addition to traveling, Barbara enjoyed spending precious time with her grandchildren. She and her husband combined these passions by hosting annual family vacations to both Ocean City, NJ and Disney World. She also played bridge regularly, resulting in close friendships that lasted for more than 55 years. Barbara followed Philadelphia sports teams and for many years was the most knowledgeable Flyers fan in the family. She and Ron particularly enjoyed watching ladies’ professional golf and regularly travelled to LPGA tournaments.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Brian S. Black (Vegee Sardi-Black) of Lititz, and Beth A. Bott (Michael A. Jeanette) of Haddonfield, NJ; six grandchildren, Aaron Black, Daniel Black, Brandon Bott, Amanda Baum, Adam Black, and Nick Hoffmaster; two great grandchildren, Wesley Baum and Averi Black; and was looking forward to the birth of a third great grandchild in August. She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Laurie Sheeler Black, in 2015.

The family is grateful for the kind care and support provided to Barbara by the staff of Moravian Manor, Your Neighborhood Connection, Hospice and Community Care, and her neighbors at Warwick Woodlands. She considered each of you her friend.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Steinman Hall Chapel, Moravian Manor, 300 West Lemon Street, Lititz, PA 17543 starting at 1:00 PM. There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at Steinman Hall Chapel. Private interment will be in Middle Creek Church Cemetery, Lititz. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to the Benevolent Care Fund of Moravian Manor.
