Obituary of Mary Ann Beyer
Mary Ann Beyer, 87, of Lititz, passed away on Monday August 18 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born in Kinzers on February 27th, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Benner Martin, and the wife of the late Ray Beyer, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children, Brenda (Beyer) Gehman, married to Dale Gehman and Clair Beyer, married to Lois (Martin) Beyer.
Mary Ann loved the Lord, her family and friends. She was a member of Hammer Creek Mennonite Church and Sunday School for 66 years. She enjoyed quilting with the church’s Sewing Circle and at Material Resource Center. She was a faithful prayer warrior, enjoyed hymn signing and valued scripture memorization.
Mary Ann and her husband enjoyed working on the dairy farm together. In her later years, she worked part-time as cook and in food service at Garden Spot Auto Auction and part-time at Manheim Auto Auction in the cafeteria. Prior to marriage, Mary Ann worked at the Blue Ball Sewing Factory.
Family was one of the greatest joys of Mary Ann’s life and she deeply valued time spent with her children, grandchildren and their families. She enjoyed watching her loved ones’ sporting events, helping with the annual canning and food preservation, and hosting her whole family for delicious meals. Mary Ann’s presence in the lives of her family was steadfast and unwavering.
In addition to her children, she will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, James, married to Amanda Martin Gehman, Richard married to Nicole Miller Gehman, Jolene married to Chad Newswanger, Renelle married to Jared Martin, Jennifer married to Keith Hurst, Melanie married to Jared Decker, Jonathan married to Michelle Hess Gehman, and Joshua married to Abigail Lapp Gehman, and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Elvin Martin married to Lois Weaver Martin, and two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Irene married to Lamar Reed. Along with her beloved husband, those preceding her in death were five brothers, Paul, Carl, Clair, Joseph and Lee Martin, and three sisters, Elsie Martin, Norma Groff and Esther Farrel.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22 at 11am at Hammer Creek Mennonite Church, 590 Hammer Creek Road, Lititz, PA. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday, August 21 from 6-8pm, and on Friday morning from 10-11am.
