Joyce Whitacre Bohn departed our physical world on Sept.12, 2025. She was the mother of Loretta Bohn of Chapel Hill, NC, and Steven Bohn, husband of Julie Ebert Bohn, of Highlands Ranch, CO, grandmother of Lauren, wife of David Truesdell of Gypsum, CO and Ryan Bohn of San Antonio, TX, and great grandmother Micah Truesdell of Gypsum, CO. Born in 1935, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. Whitacre & Bertha Fike Whitacre. She was preceded in death by eight sisters and one brother.

After graduating from high school in Luray, VA, Joyce joined Brethren Volunteer Service, serving as a Normal Control Patient at the National Institutes of Health before being approved to serve as a friend to inmates of the women's federal reformatory in Alderson, WV.

Following BVS, she returned to NIH for a year while attending American University. Following that year, she transferred to Bridgewater College, graduating in 1960 with a degree in English education. She taught school in MD, IL, VA, and NC.

In 1961, she married Richard Bohn, a fellow student at Bridgewater. After brief residences in IL, VA, and NC, they moved to Lancaster County in 1973, where she worked at Provident Book Store, Watt & Shand, and Lancaster Office Works. She enjoyed international travel and visited many states of the US.
