Obituary of Nancy L. Brown
Nancy L. Brown, 84, of the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, September 13, 2025 at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Morristown, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Insley P. and Katherine E. Kuck Jones. She was the wife of Mel W. Brown for 64 years on June 10.
Nancy attended Ursinus College before working for various pharmaceutical companies in her younger years. She later was employed for 12 years by Yale Medical School prior to retiring in 1994 as Coordinator of the Affiliated Hospital Program. She started volunteering at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, CT and continued volunteering, after relocating to the beaches she loved so dearly, for 17 years with Hospice as well as Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware. She finished her volunteer life at the Health Care Center at Masonic Village.
Her continued interest in plants and gardening was vestige of her growing up years on the family dairy farm in New Jersey. She also enjoyed needlework, piano, reading a good book, baking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Nancy was known as the cookie lady to the neighborhood where her children grew up and always said baking was her way of showing and receiving love.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Kevin W., husband of Virginia T. Troisi Brown, of Southbury, CT, Dr. Leanne B. Higgins, wife of Dr. Michael J. Higgins, of Palmyra, VA, and Craig H. Brown of Torrington, CT; seven grandchildren, Taylor L. Culp, Kyle H. Brown, Abrielle R. Higgins, Madeline B. Higgins, Daniel W. Brown, Haven M. Higgins, and Bethany K. Brown; one great grandson, Knox Lee Culp; and one brother, Larry A., husband of Melissa W. Jones, of Bangor, PA.. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, David M. Brown and a sister, Barbara J., wife of Phillip F. Tinnes, of Mechanicsburg.
Services are private. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19140 or Mason Village Hospice, 98 Masonic Drive, Suite 101, Elizabethtown, PA, 17022.
