Obituary of Janet M. Engle

Janet M. Engle, 82, of Lititz, PA, formerly of Elizabethtown, entered into God’s presence on Sunday morning, December 7, 2025 at UPMC Lititz with her loving family by her side.  Born in Fishertown, Bedford Co., PA, she was the only child of Glenn M. and Mary R. (Horne) Shaffer.  She was the wife of Kenneth L. Engle for 59 years on September 3.

Jan supported her husband in his congregational ministry and was a gifted choir director and trombonist.  Most recently, she was an active member of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church.  Her love for music extended to listening to and attending many band performances.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Messiah College (now University) in 1966, she started a long career as a registered nurse.  Most recently, she retired from full-time employment as a registered nurse at Masonic Village where she worked for 30 years.

Jan enjoyed spending time with her family and great grandson, watching sports, and being involved in small group Bible studies.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kimberly D., wife of Marc A. Hostetter, of Manheim, and Kendra M., wife of Bob E. Feigert, Jr., of Mount Joy; two grandchildren, Dana, wife of Ben Metzler, and Chad Hostetter; and a great grandson, Jett Metzler.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, January 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, 996 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA.  There will be no public viewing.  The family will receive guests at the church from 9:30-10:30 AM.  All are invited to a luncheon in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.  Private interment will be in Cross Roads Cemetery, Mount Joy.  Please omit flowers.  If desired, contributions may be made to Align Life Ministries, 131 South 8th Street, Lebanon, PA 17042.  To express a condolence with the family, visit spencefuneralservices.com.
