Obituary of Christian G. Becker
Christian G. Becker, 86, of Manheim, PA, formerly of Elizabethtown, entered his eternal home on Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025 at Pleasant View Retirement Community. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late John P. and Anna K. Good Becker. He was the husband of Arlene E. Zeager Becker. They celebrated 66 years on August 5.
Christy was an active member of Good’s Mennonite Church in Bainbridge where he was a Sunday school teacher. He also served as the caretaker of Good’s Mennonite Cemetery for many years. He often provided transportation to church for those in his neighborhood. As a newly married couple, Christy and Arlene served for two years in 1-W Service at Maine Medical Center. Upon returning to Elizabethtown, he joined his father on the family dairy farm and eventually became the owner until his retirement. He was also employed as a school bus driver for Kraybill Mennonite School.
He was a member of the local Young Farmers group, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and Gideon’s International, Lancaster West Camp. Christy was a man with a servant’s heart, always ready to help others. He supported humanitarian relief efforts by donating heifers and encouraged other farmers to do the same. He enjoyed attending the sports events of his children and grandchildren but seemed to have more interest in talking with others than watching the game.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Marian, wife of Steve Buckwalter, of Fulks Run, VA, Marlin, husband of Doreen Martin Becker, of Elizabethtown, Ken, husband of Anne Horning Becker, of Mohnton, and Karey, wife of Dwane Newswanger, of Bainbridge; 16 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Groff of Lancaster. He was also preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Sheyenne Hassler; and four siblings, Anna Ruth Burkholder, John Becker, James Becker, and Robert Becker.
A celebration of Christy’s life will be held on Thursday morning, January 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Good’s Mennonite Church, 4374 Bossler Road, Elizabethtown, PA. Burial will follow in Good’s Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive guests during a public viewing on Wednesday evening from 6-8:00 PM at Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA and at the church on Thursday morning, from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 21st Street, Akron, PA 17501-0500 or to Gideon’s International, Lancaster West Camp, PO Box 194, Manheim, PA 17545.
