Leo always gave everyone the warmest, most genuine hugs and “Hellos!”. That is what immediately pops in my head when I hear his name, and then, of course, I remember his rapier wit, keen insight and encyclopedic brain! Leo was a master conversationalist but when he spoke of his family, whom he loved proudly and fiercely, he shined the brightest. Those are the memories of Leo I will keep with me until we meet again.

So many great memories with Leo. Tubing the Manistee River, laughing all the way… until we had to climb up the sandhill. The van rides from tubing with 20 smashed in a van singing along to Van Morrison! And, the Springfield caretaker house with the gray horse- how did we survive this? Leo was a kind friend, always there when crisis arose, or the creator of crisis. I will so miss you! You taught me so much of music, and laughter the key to living a quality life. I adored how you loved Jo and were totally obsessed!!!! Until, Nick came along!!!! Big love, Dr. Love!!!!!Be at the gate for me with Kathleen, Jimmy, Craig, Count, and Steve Paugh!!!!!

Every now and again we are gifted by knowing or loving a person who has a presence that is larger than life. Leo was (is) one of them. He was like that as a kid and for as long as we’ve known him these lasting decades. His music was as loud as his voice and his drive was as deep as his compassion. Nobody was hungry or needing when he was in the room. I bet he’s going to be a great angel as he enters Heaven with his ‘Appraisal’ in hand and his big, deep-belly laugh as he greets St Peter at the Gate.

Memories of Leo : An engaging laugh, a quick smile that lit up his face, and usually the life of the party. Leo enjoyed entertaining in a generous way - lots of friends, fun and food (and with lots of help from the love of his life, Joanne!) Memories of summers visiting from Colorado as the Skladany's treated us as royalty; setting up beds, tents, pools and giving the kids rides on the tractor! And so much food, treats and huge scoops of ice cream from Uncle Leo - it didn't get any better than that! Leo - your suffering has come to an end, you fought bravely but now are at peace! You willed be missed but we will keep so many good memories of you in our hearts! Mary
