Obituary of Mary Phyllis Beal

Mary Phyllis Beal, 91, of Friedens, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, February 6, 2026 with her family by her side. Born in Somerset Twp., she was the daughter of the late George F. and Mary Elizabeth Weighley Baer. She was the loving wife of Albert D. Beal for 73 years.

A homemaker, Phyllis was an active member of Geiger Church of the Brethren in Geiger. She was a 1952 graduate of the former Somerset Twp. High School. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Canada and Alaska. However, her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, David, husband of Linda Gratson Beal, of Scottdale, PA, Donald, husband of Janice Kimmel Beal, of Friedens, Douglas, husband of Amy Smith Beal, of Flanders, NJ, George, husband of Jaynie Cooper Beal, of Listie, and Mary Beth, wife of David Gillespie, of Ridgeley, WV; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Miller, Davids Beal, Jr., Brianna Jano, Lacey Mostoller, Emily Dawkins, Laura Rowland, Cory Bisick, Justin Gillespie, Nathan Gillespie, Dan Cooper, and Elaine Kniss; 14 great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Bonnie and Sandy Baer. She was the last surviving member of the Baer family. She was preceded in death by seven siblings, John, Rober, George and Allen Baer, Sara Mae Creech, Emma Jane Weible, and Dorothy Judy.

A funeral service will be held on Monday morning, February 16, 2026 at 11:30 AM at Geiger Church of the Brethren, 185 Culligan Road, Friedens, PA 15541. The family will receive guests during a public viewing at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Private interment will be in Somerset Memorial Park.
