Obituary of Leroy C. Achenbach

Leroy C. Achenbach, 84, of Mount Joy, PA, entered Eternal Glory on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Franklin C. and Mildred M. (Landis) Achenbach. He was the loving husband of Miriam L. Maust Achenbach, with whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on September 30, 2025.

Leroy was a 1960 graduate of Elizabethtown High School and attended Elizabethtown College. He considered accepting Christ into his life in his twenties to be his life’s greatest blessing. Beginning in his youth, Leroy served in leadership roles at Bainbridge Church of God, where he eventually became pastor and faithfully served the congregation for 16 years.

He was employed as a set-up operator for the former Alcoa and Precision Form, both in Lancaster. Throughout his life, he also held various part-time jobs while balancing church service and full-time employment. Along with serving the Lord, Leroy considered his roles as husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to be his greatest life’s work.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Michelle (significant other, Andrew) of Mountville; Juanita, wife of Shawn, of Colorado; and Linda, wife of Douglas, of Bainbridge. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Tim, Jordon, Tyler (husband of Eva), Jarrod, Tiana (fiancée of Harry), Jada, Monny, Preciouse Bleu, Bella (fiancée of Butch), Jah’mere, Lyshaell (fiancée of Pablo), and Tamir; five great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Eliot, Tennyson, Emma, and Jack; and four sisters: Sandra J., Sherry (wife of John), Gerry (wife of Doug), and Trudy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Destiny, and his sister, Judith G. Grove.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Mount Joy Church of God, 30 E. Main Street, Mount Joy, PA 17552. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bainbridge Church of God or to Water Street Mission, 210 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
