Obituary of Dorothy M. Hoover

Dorothy M. Hoover, 95, of Lititz, PA, formerly of Wantagh, Long Island, New York, entered the presence of God on Thursday evening, April 11, 2024 at Landis Homes.  Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Bertram and Thelma Mowbray Major.  She was the wife of Rev. Robert E. Hoover for 59 years prior to his passing in 2009.

An educator, Dorothy retired in 1997 from Lancaster Christian School where she taught for nine years.  Her teaching career spanned 27 years and included teaching kindergarten through middle school classes.  She received great joy in seeing students she taught in kindergarten develop into wonderful adult Christians, many who remained in communication with her over the years.  She was also a licensed real estate agent.

Dorothy attended Grace Church in Lititz.  She was a member of Wantagh Baptist Church in Wantagh, NY, and Calvary Baptist Church of Horseheads, NY where her husband was the founding pastor.  She loved teaching high school Sunday school class.   Dorothy enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid reader her entire lifetime, and expressed her appreciation for art by painting in watercolor and oil.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca A., wife of Kenneth Holderman, Jr. of Goshen, IN, and Susanne L., wife of John R. Fisher of Dingman's Ferry, PA; a son, Stephen E. Hoover, husband of Shu-Yu (Serena) Ku of Lititz, PA; six grandchildren: Aaron and Mark Holderman, Jennifer S. Klein, 1st Lt. Bryan Fisher, and Daniel and Ezra Hoover and several great grandchildren.

A Life Celebration service will be held on Thursday afternoon, April 18, 2024 at 3:00 PM at West Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA.  There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Brickerville will be private.  The family requests that flowers please be omitted.  If desired, contributions may be made to Grace Church of Lititz, 501 West Lincoln Avenue, Lititz, PA 17543.  To express a condolence with the family, visit visit www.spencefuneralservices.com. To watch a livestream of the service, visit https://my.gather.app/remember/dorothy-hoover-2024.
