Obituary of Rebecca Ann Rome
Rebecca Ann Rome, 66, of Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Highspire, unexpectedly entered into the secure and perfect peace of Christ on Saturday evening, October 2, 2021 at Hershey Medical Center of natural causes. Born in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lois J. Ebersole Rose. She was the loving wife of Sandy J. Rome for 37 years in March.
Becky earned a Master’s Degree in Anthropology from Temple University and broadened her education by taking counseling courses at Lutheran Seminary, both in Philadelphia. Prior to retiring in 2017, she was employed as a family therapist by Phil Haven. Earlier, she and Sandy were house parents for nine years at the Milton Hershey School and she was a Crisis Social Worker in Harrisburg.
She obtained a certificate from the C.S. Lewis Institute and shared her knowledge and insights of Lewis by facilitating adult Christian Education classes at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was an active member. She also served her church family as a Stephen minister and her community as an instructor and helper of the ESL program at Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church. She also provided a home for several foster children over the years. Becky had a love for animals, nature and various outdoor activities. She also enjoyed traveling, including a trip to Italy.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Sandry D., husband of Lauran E. Ekes Rome, of East Berlin, Stephen J., husband of Kimberly Ann Messick Rome, of Harrisburg, Joshua C., husband of Kayla Post Rome, of Anchorage, AK, Kimberly J. Rome, wife of Zachary Clements, of Seattle, WA, Jeffery T., husband of Ebony Jenkins Rome, of Philadelphia, and Michael R., husband of Anna Brown Rome, of Manchester; eight grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Grayson, Sadie, Mason, Maszie, Chancellor, and Coulson; and a brother, David R. Rose of Swatara.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 75 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA. There is no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Masks are optional. The service will be livestreamed at tinyurl.com/celcetown.
