My first contact with Jesse and Leona was the summer of 1970 when I was employed to "babysit" the 4 boys on the days Leona went to work. I was fresh out of high school but they were trusting of me to oversee the days activity. Over the years, I would meet Jesse at the Manheim farm show as he represented the Gideon's. After he moved to Pleasant View RC, I had many pleasant encounters as I crisscrossed the campus and eventually helped with his care when he moved to a personal care floor. His room was peaceful to enter and he always was welcoming. He was a man of God! My sympathies are extended to the sons and families as you journey the road of grief. ~ Elta Nissley

I always knew that the upholstery man in Mastersonville was related to my father (Amos and Jesse were cousins) but it wasn’t until I worked at Pleasant View in 2019 that I got to know Jesse on a personal basis. My father died in 1997 and somehow interacting with Jesse helped me to feel in touch with him. Jesse was always so kind and thoughtful - he spoke highly of his wife and his sons. He was passionate about his involvement with the Gideons and grateful that his business lived on after he stepped out of it. My condolences to his sons and their families, as well as to Jim & Carolyn. May God’s saving grace shine through your memories of Jesse.

It was a privilege and blessing to know Jesse and Leona. They took us under their wing when we were new to Lancaster and CBC. I will miss him and grieve the loss but so grateful for God’s grace. Jesse is finally HOME!

Dear Peters Family,
My sister Olive Peters was married to Earl Peters. When I was in 8th(?) grade, I spent the summer in Manheim as I took care of Judy and Wayne while Olive and Earl were at work. That was when I met Jesse! I don't know if you could calL IT a "date", but Jesse did take me to a youth gathering which turned into a disaster for me! I don't remember the details bu I got soaked. I do remember that Jesse was very kind! He loaned me a pair of his pants from the trunk of his car!
Jesse and Leone , Hetty and Anna Grace would see each other when Olive and Earl would have family gaterings. I also knewof Jesse's high quality upholstery work and had referred some friends to him.
After Leone's death, i had lost touch with you. When I read the obituary this morning, some good memories surged forth.
My prayer for you is that your faith, family, good memories and good friends will be your support as you moun Jesse's passing.
"yes, though I walk through the valley of death, I will fear no evil, for you, God, are with me!"
My husband and i have lived here at Brethren Village for the last 5 1/2 yrs. We like it very much.
Sincerely,
Joyce Whitacre Bohn
