I am so sorry that this is the first time I am finding out about the loss of my friend and, in humanity, a good person. What does caring look like? It has Kevin's hands that help others. Kevin had the feet to hasten to those in need. Kevin also had eyes to see distress and stepped in where he could. Kevin also had ears to hear the sighs and sorrows around him, making the most of his talent at each opportunity. That is what caring for others looks like, and Kevin lived this life daily. For many years, I worked alongside Kevin, an authentic professional providing Gardner pies in the upstate New York area. My life was so enriched by knowing and sharing opportunities and challenges with him—my best wishes to his family. I am so proud to have known Kevin. God bless.

Kevin worked with me at Original Bagel over twenty years ago. When I think of Kevin in those days, I remember a man who was hard working, honest, and a sales mentor. Those early years were often stressful and Kevin provided a reassuring and kind presence. After he left Original Bagel and began at Gardner Pie we'd always make it a point to say hello and spend time with each other at trade shows. I was also fortunate to speak to Kevin several times each year to talk business and hear about each others families and lives. I will very much miss our conversations and just hearing his friendly voice. The pictures I've attached are from a conference we attended together at Snowbird in Utah where we also went hiking and mountain biking together. It was a happy time! I will miss my friend Kevin and am very fortunate to have had him in my life. My condolences to Rose and the entire Hickernell family. Kevin is missed by many and he is thought of as a respected man who lived with integrity.

Kevin had a great heart and vision for helping those in need through the ‘foodbox ministry’ at Chiques Church. For many years, he was faithful in making sure that this would happen by working months before the event(s) to assure that the food was ordered in a timely manner so that it could be coordinated for the trips to Waterstreet, Bethesda, Germantown Phila and NYC. It’s happened at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter as well. He was persistent in making sure that there would be enough to help using the van and of course the 26’ box truck to transport food and people. Many times I worked with Kevin on trips to see Pastor Richard and Phil Carlos Archbold and we were blessed in the process. My most memorable memory was when Kevin and I took a load of food to Germantown COB. After unloading, we were asked by Pastor Richard to stay for foot washing and love feast. Kevin and I initially wanted to start back home right away, but Pastor Richard convinced us we would be welcome to stay. We were both so blessed to be able to participate and talked about how glad we took time to stay while heading home.
One day we will talk about those memories again Kevin.

Arrived home late last night from the West Coast to the sad news about Kevin. A good man and gentle soul. He was all about helping people. Hired me to work a summer job at McDonalds in Middletown way back in the day. Great guy and family man. Kevin, you will be missed. Rest in Peace.

Rose, Annie, and David
I was saddened to hear about Kevin's passing. I had the opportunity to work with Kevin for many years at Hy-Vee. I always looked forward to visits from "the pie guy". He was more than a supplier, he was a great friend. God bless you all.
