Obituary of Dawn L. Motter

Dawn L. Motter, 63, of Stevens, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late M. Laverne (Ogle) and Carl E. “Gene” Carpenter, Sr. She was the beloved wife to Edwin F. Motter for 46 years.

Dawn was a devote Christian and member of Mohler Church of the Brethren where she gave her time and talents with a servant’s heart to many programs within the church, such as serving meals, children’s ministry, youth ministry, vacation Bible School, and many other activities within the church. Dawn had a special place in her heart for those who are incarcerated and at times forgotten. In Matthew 25, Jesus said, “I was in prison and you visited me.” Dawn visited the incarcerated and forgotten by her fervent prayers and financial support. She gave faithfully over the years to her brother, Carl’s, prison ministry. Her gifts over the years blessed many and uplifted many wounded spirits.

When Dawn wasn’t serving at church, she and her husband Ed enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. They enjoyed going on multiple RV trips to the mountains and the beach during which they created many special memories with their children and grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly as Nana Dawn by countless children whom she cared for and showed unconditional love for in her home over multiple decades. Dawn’s character expressed unconditional love, care, compassion, understanding and forgiveness to her husband, children, family, extended family, church family, and all those that she ever came in contact with over her life.

In addition to her husband, Edwin, she is survived by her three sons, Jason E. Motter, of Stevens, Justin E. Motter, of Jacobus, and Jeremy S. Motter, husband of Victoria A., of Adamstown; 8 grandchildren, Ethan D. Motter, Tristan J. Motter, Abbie M. Motter, Jack Rathman, Karin A. Rathman, Nathan E. Motter, Josephine A. Motter, and Arabella L. Motter; 2 siblings, Beth A. Ulrich, wife of Brad, of Ephrata, and Carl Carpenter, husband of Davonna, of Prattville, Alabama, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dawn’s family would like to express their greatest appreciation and thanks to all family and friends that have been on this journey with Dawn and her family.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Mohler Church of the Brethren, 21 East Mohler Church Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.
