Just by being there, Jim had a way of keeping up optimism in the face of difficulty. His pleasant personality and smile made things go more smoothly. Thanks for your help in those times, Jim. Heaven is getting an upgrade.

Dear cousins and family.
Our prayers and thoughts are with you as you celebrate your Dad’s life this week. Your Dad was “Uncle Dean” to us, not realizing his first name was James until we were adults. He was kind, loving and had a wonderful laugh. I still cherish the smiles he and my mother had at my mother’s birthday celebration when we last got together. All the brothers and their sister are smiling down on us now.
With loving memories,
Mary (Lou) and Barry

Jim was one of a kind. Always willing to help, always available for support, and always there with a smile and a supporting shoulder. He was an excellent engineer admired by both his peers and his customers. He will be missed by all.

Jim Shaffer was like a second father to me always offering me mentorship, spiritual guidance, wisdom, friendship, and love. In many ways I owe the success of my Navy career to this wonderful man. God speed Jim. Fair winds and following seas. Rest easy, we now have the watch.

I knew your Mother, sweet Virginia first, as I exercised w her and would often sit with her in the hot tub at PV. Then we met Jim one Mother's Day when we sat w them and my Mother together in the dining room. We were entertained by Dad's stories and his gratefulness for his wife's care of the family.
Fast forward a lot of years, and we came to appreciate him even more as he loved to chat at Hearth and Harrow every time we saw him. A kind, cheerful man..he will be missed!

How dear Jim was to me when I worked at Pleasant View. I loved taking him on the bus for meals, musicals and of course Ice Cream! He always had a story to share and a kind comment when he saw me. What a good and full life he lived!

Sincere condolences to Jim’s family. Jim was such a sweet & funny man. We enjoyed him so much in the short time we knew him at Pleasant View but had so much fun with him in that short time! He lived to go on all the bus trips he could manage, especially the meal trips. He certainly had a love for life & filled it to the fullest every day. We will surely miss his smiling face! Dear cousins. Growing up in Akron we didn't get to you or your dad often. However, the few times we did I remember your dad as a funny and loving person. I'm sure he will be missed. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Tom Shaffer
