Obituary of Emily J. New

Emily J. New, 95, of York Haven, PA, formerly of Shenandoah Heights, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday afternoon, August 5, 2023 at UPMC Memorial in York.  Born in Shenandoah, she was the daughter of the late Fredrick H. and Elizabeth Evans Sperr.  She was the wife of the late Donald L. New for 37 years before his passing in 1990.

She was a 1946 graduate of Conynham Twp. High School in Aristes and a member of Redland Valley Brethren in Christ Church in York Haven.  Prior to retiring in 1990, she was employed for 13 years as a nurse’s aide by Rest Haven in Schuylkill Haven.  Emily was active with Red Land Senior Center where she enjoyed playing games, especially Rummikub.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda J., wife of Victor J. Chuplis, of York Haven; two grandsons, Sean D., husband of Michelle Chuplis, and Aaron J., husband of Janelle Chuplis; four great grandchildren, Caroline, David, Robert, and Samantha Chuplis; a brother, William Sperr of Peabody, MA; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Severt of Allentown.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Sperr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Redland Valley Brethren in Christ Church, 3555 Lewisberry Road, York Haven, PA 17370.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive guests during a public viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.  All are invited to join the family for a meal immediately following the service.  If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Redland Valley Brethren in Christ Church or to Red Land Senior Center, 736 Wyndamere Road, Lewisberry, PA 17339.  To express a condolence with the family,visit www.spencefuneralservices.com.
