Obituary of Carol A. Mulleavy
Carol A. Mulleavy, 87, of Elizabethtown, PA, returned home to be with her Savior on Monday evening, September 25, 2023 at Masonic Village Health Care Center. Born in Salamanca, NY, Carol was the daughter of the late Francis X. and Sara Smith Bolender. She was the wife of Thomas L. Mulleavy for 66 years.
Carol was a faithful member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Elizabethtown where she served as the organist for the choir for 20 years. She also sang in the choir and shared the leadership of the Bereavement Support Group with her husband. Carol earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in language arts from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. For a brief time, she taught Spanish, French, and German before devoting herself to raising her children and being a phenomenal homemaker.
For 20 years, Carol welcomed newcomers to Elizabethtown as a hostess for Welcome Wagon. She also supported her community by volunteering her time with meals-on-wheels and with the Elizabethtown Food Bank. She loved to play bridge and belonged to several ladies’ card clubs. Carol also enjoyed bowling and was a member of a women’s league as well as bowling with Tom on a couples’ league.
Carol and Tom were committed to each other and lived life as a team. In retirement, they traveled extensively around the world. Family meant everything to Carol. She hosted all holidays and family gatherings in her home and lavished each one with her excellent cooking.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Karen M. Haith of Randolph, NJ, Janice L., wife of Maurice E. Nester, of Mechanicsburg, and Judy A., wife of William J. Bova, of Palmyra; a daughter-in-law, Kellie Pence Mulleavy of Lambertville, MI; six grandchildren, Miranda (Albert) Miller, Nathan (Whitney) Nester, Haley Bova (Andrew Zwally), Nicholas Bova, Erin Mulleavy, and Everett Mulleavy; and three great grandchildren, Gibson Miller, Adelaide Miller, and Baker Nester. She was also preceded in death by a son, Gregory F. Mulleavy; and a son-in-law, Silas Haith. She was the last of her parents’ six children.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 904 Mill Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. All are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following Mass. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Final Commendation and Fairwell will follow the luncheon in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.
