Lunch and a celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:30 PM at Marietta American Legion, 19 South Gay Street, Marietta. Please consider wearing her favorite color, yellow, to honor Tess.

Obituary of Theresa A. Sload Mateer

Theresa A. "Tess" Sload Mateer, 75, of Marietta, PA, passed away on Saturday morning, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at her residence.  Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Warren W. and Dorothy M. Fogie Sload.

A lifelong resident of Marietta, Tess was a graduate of Donegal High School.  In her early years, she was employed by NCR and Donnelly.  She spent most of her career employed by Wyeth in Marietta and retired in 2003 from its successor, Pfizer, where her last position was quality control.

Tess possessed a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  She cherished her circle of friends and spent many years as a member of the Marietta American Legion Auxiliary.  She and her daughter, Mindy, enjoyed time their spent together at the beach, antiquing, and thrift shopping, and just being together and cruising with the top down.  She also spent time playing video games on the computer and listening to music, especially Doo Wop.  She had a special bond with her canine friend, Jazmin, and grieved when she passed.

Additionally cherished and loved by Tess are her two children, Michael D. Mateer of Marietta, and Mindy, wife of Gary W. Kitchen, of Elizabethtown; her two brothers, Steve, husband of Claudia Brady Sload, of Marietta, and Greg, husband of Renee Sload, of Millersville; her sister-in-law, Shirley Sload of Farmdale; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and her two granddogs, Boone and Dutch.  She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Sandra Sload and Richard "Rick" Sload.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, February 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Spence Funeral Services, 40 North Charlotte Street, Manheim, PA.  There will be no public viewing.
