Obituary of William S. Martin, Jr.
William S. Martin, Jr., 80, of Manheim, PA, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 21, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Fort Sill, OK, he was the son of the late William S. Martin, Sr. and Elizabeth Jane Harlow Martin. He was the husband of Linda L. Barto Martin for 59 years on April 10.
Bill graduated from Garden Spot High School in 1963 where he was on the soccer and basketball teams and was the school president his senior year. Soon after graduation, he was hired by RR Donnelley where he was employed for 42 years before retiring in 2006 as production supervisor. He was a faithful member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manheim.
He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, following the Phillies, Eagles, and the Manheim Barons, and had season tickets to the Hershey Bears hockey. He looked forward to annual trips to both Bedford County as well as Ocean Isle Beach, NC with his family. After he retired, he began playing golf and was proud to have shot a hole-in-one! He and Linda enjoyed taking road trips and finding out-of-the-way antique shops. Bill possessed an outgoing personality only matched by his ready smile and resonating voice.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Beth E., wife of Michael E. Schroll, of Manheim and William S. Martin, III of Manheim; four very special “grandgirls,” Colleen (Brian) Schroll Sprenkle, Heather Schroll, Kerri Martin, and Kyria Martin; a great grandson, Hudson Sprenkle; his mother-in-law, Rubye M. Barto of Manheim; and two siblings, John Robert, husband of Jolene Martin, of Lancaster and Maria, wife of David Bellarts, of Gig Harbor, WA.
