Obituary of Brian Thomas Lehr

Brian Thomas Lehr, 67, of Columbia, PA, formerly of York, passed away unexpectedly and was embraced by Jesus’ open arms on Monday afternoon, July 29, 2024 at Penn State Medical Center Lancaster. Born in York, he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Josephine Elizabeth Trulinos Lehr. He was the husband of Lori K. Smith Lehr for 24 years on May 13.

Brian was a born-again believer in Jesus Christ, filled with God’s Holy Spirit and a longtime member of Christ the King Community Church where he served as an usher and was involved in a men’s prayer ministry over the years. Following Hurricane Katrina, Brian served with Mennonite Disaster Services in Louisiana helping those affected by the storm’s aftermath.

Brian attended York Vo-Tech and completed the diploma program in robotics and engineering. In his younger years, he was employed as a gas station manager by the former Hi W Oil in Mountville. He later was employed by Rock Tenn in manufacturing and retired in February 2023 from Westover Companies where he provided maintenance at Park City Apartments west of Lancaster.

Although a jokester, Brian was a man of few words. He loved spending time with his family. When his sons were young, he was very involved in coaching and managing in the York Little League Association. In addition to fly fishing and crabbing, he enjoyed watching the Phillies and the San Francisco 49ers. He and Lori met at the bowling alley during a period of time when Brian bowled on leagues in Lancaster and York.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Andrew B., husband of Christen Swain Lehr, of Phoenix, MD, and Adam J., husband of Michelle VanOver Lehr, of Salisbury, MD; two grandchildren, Olivia and Aiden Lehr; and seven siblings, Patricia, wife of Steve Shearer, of Manchester, Nancy, wife of Gary Ellis, of Vancouver, BC, Diane Lehr, wife of Michael Gladwin, of Akron, Ann, wife of Jim O’Conner, of Chincoteague Island, VA , Christopher, husband of Libby Lehr, of York, Tom Lehr, husband of Megan Baker, of York Springs, and Melissa, wife of Karl Thompson, of York. He is also survived by his Cavapoo, Dakota, who he referred to as his “little one”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Sue Poff Lehr, in 1998.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Christ the King Community Church, 2449 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests informally at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. All are invited to a light meal at the church immediately following the service. Pleae omit flowers. Please consider sending contributions to Lori Lehr to offset expenses.
