Obituary of Gary L. Hornock

Gary L. Hornock, 68, of Elizabethtown, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, November 24, 2024 at ChriatianaCare Hospital in Newark, DE following an unexpected illness.  Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late john J. and Dorothy E. (Carl) Hornock.  He was the husband of Donna R. (Hiestand) Hornock.  They would have celebrated 36 years of marriage on November 26.

Gary was a committed member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Elizabethtown.  They enjoyed spending time in Delaware and attended St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Newark. Gary was a 1975 graduate of Palmyra High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Penn State – Capitol Campus.  He was employed by Hershey Chocolate factory for 38 years as a machine operator and in the packaging department prior to retiring in 2020.

In addition to reading and taking walks, Gary enjoyed geography and was an amateur cartographer.  He and Donna also enjoyed traveling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis F. (Shifflet) Hiestand of Elizabethtown; and his canine companion, Mary.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, John G. Hornock; and his father-in-law, John M. Hiestand.

A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning, December 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 904 Mill Road, Elizabethtown, PA.  There will be no public viewing.  The family will receive guests immediately following the service during a luncheon in the social hall of the church.  If desired, contributions may be made to Humane Pennsylvania, 2129 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, PA 17602 for the care of animals and to place them in furever homes.  To express a condolence with the family visit www.spencefuneralservices.com.
