Obituary of Alta H. Hosler

Please share a memory of Alta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alta H. Hosler, 88, of 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA, formerly of Manheim, PA, was called home to Glory on Wednesday evening, May 9, 2012 at Brethren Village, following a period of declining health. Born in Mount Joy Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late John K. and Katie Hess Stauffer. She was the wife of Galen W. Hosler for 67 years on December 16, 2011. Alta was a faithful member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim where she served on the kitchen committee in her earlier years. Even though she was employed by S. Clyde Weaver tending stands at Harrisburg and Roots markets for over 40 years, her family considers her most worthy vocation to be that of a homemaker. She worked very hard at raising and harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables, eventually preserving much of the produce to be enjoyed later by family and friends. Alta shared her gift of hospitality by entertaining guests in her home and taking meals to those in need. Even the creations of her sewing and crocheting abilities benefited family members and Christian Aid Ministries. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Nevin S., husband of Cordelia H. Keller Hosler, of Manheim, Patricia A., wife of Darwin H. Metzler, of Lititz, PA, and Marjorie S., wife of Kevin E. Shaffer, of Manheim; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four siblings, Lester, husband of Dorothy Stauffer, of Manheim, Myrtle, wife of Stanley White, of Manheim, Marian, wife of Ernest Shenk, of Lititz, and Velma, wife of Lloyd Gingrich, of Palmyra, PA. She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter. A memorial service will be held on Monday evening, May 14, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA with Ron Strickler and Norman Yeater officiating. Interment will be private in the Chiques Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests during a time of fellowship in the Family Life Center of the church immediately following the service. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Christian Aid Ministries, PO Box 360, Berlin, OH 44610-0360.
