Obituary of Dorothy Shaffer

Dorothy Foreman Shaffer, 87, of Manheim, PA, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center in Lititz, PA, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mount Joy Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Annie Fry Foreman. She was the wife of J. Marlin Shaffer, Sr. for 68 years on June 3, 2012. Dorothy was a faithful member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim. A true homemaker, she enjoyed canning and preserving the vegetables she grew in her garden, as well as doing embroidery work and crocheting afghans for each of her grandchildren. Dorothy also enjoyed time spent at their family cabin in Potter County. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Myrl R., wife of Clair E. Greiner, of Mount Joy, PA, Connie S., wife of Kenneth M. Rutt, of Drumore, PA, Judy A., wife of Ron Strickler, of Lititz, and J. Marlin, Jr., husband of Kandis K., Withers Shaffer, of Manheim; a daughter-in-law, Deborah M. Gibble Shaffer of Manheim; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Shaffer; a grandson, Nicholas L. Shaffer; and a brother, Authur Foreman. A funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 18, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA with Ministers Ron Strickler and Norman Yeater officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM until the time of the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.
