Obituary of Miriam D. Heisey

Miriam D. Heisey, 80, of Manheim, PA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, March 17, 2013 at Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, PA. Born on the 1727 Wenger homestead in West Earl Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, she was the only daughter of Noah W. and Elma K. Denlinger Wenger. She was the wife of the late Edwin B. Heisey who died in 1978 after 16 years of marriage. Prior to moving to a cottage at Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community in 2009, she lived in a home along Hossler Road for 42 years. A homemaker, she was a faithful member of Grace Community Fellowship, formerly Gantz Mennonite Church, Manheim. In addition to living her gift of service, she was the church treasurer, a Sunday school teacher, church contact lady, and organized groups to sing to residents at local retirement communities. She was also continuously involved in local church sewing circles and had a talent for reweaving clothing. Miriam was a volunteer coordinator and cashier at Mount Joy Gift and Thrift Shop. Earlier in her life, she was employed as a teller by the former Manheim National Bank. She is survived by four children, Nevin W., husband of Joy Layton Heisey, of Lancaster, PA, Vernon W., husband of Renee S. Haldeman Heisey, of Manheim, Elma W., wife of James R. Vital, Jr., of Manheim, and Leon W., husband of Heather J. Staller Heisey, of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; 10 grandchildren; and six brothers, Mervin D., husband of Mary C. Wenger, of Ephrata, PA, Arthur D., husband of Mary K. Wenger, of Lititz, PA, Lloyd D., husband of Pauline R. Wenger, of Millville, NJ, Luke D., husband of Shirley A. Wenger, of New Holland, PA, Earl D., husband of Lois Wenger, of Ephrata, and Roy D., husband of Theresa R. Wenger, of Leola, PA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elvin D. Wenger. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Hernley Mennonite Church, 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim, PA with Pastor Dennis W. Andrew officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at Hernley Mennonite Church on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Friday morning from 9:30-10:45 AM. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community, 3026 Mount Hope Home Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
