Obituary of Anna Mae Spence

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna Mae Spence, 73, of Creekside, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013 at Indiana Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Frances M. Weaver Hollobaugh. She was the loving wife of Bernard E. Spence. They would have been married for 54 years on September 12. A homemaker, she was a faithful member of the Elderton United Methodist Church where she served the church in many ways, including being treasurer for many years. She was a 1957 graduate of the former Elderton High School. She received pleasure in being able to give to her family and friends simple things like a warm baby afghan she crocheted, delicious cinnamon rolls she baked, or vegetables she grew in her garden. She delighted in the appearance of her Dutch Run home by growing flowers and caring for the lawn. Most of all, she found joy in her two grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, William P. (Brenda K. McCoy) Spence of Manheim, PA, Sharon S. (R. Duwane) Waltenbaugh of Creekside, Mark D. (Stacey D. Fulmer) Spence of Elderton, and Marsha D. Spence of Creekside, friend of Kyle A Sharp; two grandchildren, Curtis D. (Raquel D.Weaver) Waltenbaugh and Kaitlyn F. Cummins, fiancé of Travis P. Potts; and three sisters, D. Jean Marshall of Shelocta, PA, Betty J. (David W. "Doc") Daugherty of Creekside, and Dorothy A. (W. John "Jack") Fleming of Shelocta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister and brother. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of Beacon Ridge Manor for the care they provided during her time there. A funeral service will be held on Friday evening, August 9, 2013 at 7:30 PM at Clark Chapel of Bauer Funeral Home, 238 South Main Street, Elderton, PA with Rev. Kevin Rea officiating. Interment will be private in the Atwood Cemetery. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Elderton United Methodist Church, 125 N. Main Street, Elderton, PA 15736.
