Obituary of Betty J. Myers

Betty J. Myers, 83, of Elizabethtown, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday evening, October 12, 2013 at Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, PA, of complications following a routine heart procedure. Born in Mount Joy, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Herr Rider. She was the wife of the late Ralph J. Myers who died in 2002. Her first husband, John R. Smith, died in 1969. Betty was an active member of Grace Brethren Church of Elizabethtown and attended evening services at Faith Bible Church in Mount Joy. She hosted a women's Bible study in her home for more than 10 years. Betty received pleasure in being a homemaker and being able to care for her family and home. In addition to reading, gardening, and playing a weekly game of Scrabble, she enjoyed camping with the Christian Campers group, traveling, and taking bus trips. She loved having dogs as companions, especially poodles. Betty was deeply loved by family and friends. She is survived by three children, Michael A., husband of Valarie Wildman Myers, of Mission Viejo, CA, C. Lynn, wife of Paul D. Homick, of Elizabethtown, and Mark J., husband of Connie L. Ryan Myers, of Mount Joy; five grandchildren, Joy Myers, Emily, wife of Adam Greiner, Andrew Homick, Abigail Myers, and Courtney Myers; a great granddaughter, Abriella Greiner; and two sisters, Lois Becker of Maytown, PA and Geraldine Wetzel of Mount Joy. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Mary Sager. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Grace Brethren Church, 305 Anchor Road, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Pastors Jeff Hoffard and Tim Placeway officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown. The family will receive guests at the church on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM and Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service. If desired, contributions may be made to the missions fund of Grace Brethren Church. A webcast of the service will be available beginning the day following the service at www.spencefuneralservices.com.
