Obituary of Alvin W. Diffenderfer

Alvin W. Diffenderfer, 90, of Manheim, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday afternoon, August 9, 2014 at Pleasant View Retirement Community following a brief illness. Born in Silver Springs, PA, he was the son of the late Clayton L. and Elizabeth Waser Diffenderfer. He was the husband of Mabel Fahnestock Diffenderfer for 67 years. Mr. Diffenderfer was a faithful member of White Oak Church of the Brethren in Manheim. He was also a member of Gideon's International for 34 years where he served as chaplain for several years. He worked for the former Myer's Metered Gas in Manheim for 20 years. He then owned and operated A. D. Electric service for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004. He served and blessed others in many ways. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Rebecca, wife of Joe Cassel, of Manheim, Lois, wife of John Minnich, of Lititz, Rachel, wife of Richard Groff, of Manheim, and John, husband of Kathleen Fodor Diffenderfer, of Manheim; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a brother, Donald W., husband of Esther Diffenderfer, of Manheim. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Warren W. Diffenderfer, Harold W. Diffenderfer, and William W. "Bill" Diffenderfer. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at White Oak Church of the Brethren, 1211 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing and visitation with the family will be held at the church on Friday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
