Obituary of William C. Stevenson

William C. Stevenson, 88, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital of natural causes. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late James E. and Edith Carlin Stevenson. He was the husband of the late Carol A. Gorrie Stevenson for 38 years before her death in 2014. Bill was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Clearwater, FL and John S. Sell Memorial Chapel at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy Seabees as Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class. He was employed in the Customer Service Department of Philadelphia Gas Works for 36 years. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a 60 year member of John Smith Lodge No. 751, F&AM in Philadelphia and Harrisburg Consistory. He was also a member of the American Legion, Conewago Post No. 329 in Elizabethtown and Seabee Veterans of America. He volunteered at Masonic Village as a videographer of services in the chapel and other activities. He is survived by five children, Carol Norman of Ambler, PA, Janet Stevenson, wife of Anthony Puyia, of Brigantine, NJ, William, Jr., husband of Jodie Stevenson, of Reading, PA, Lisa, wife of James Peace, of Los Angeles, CA, and Robin Lynch of Ship Bottom, NJ; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2015 at 10:30 AM at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Rev. Gary George officiating. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family will receive guests at the chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to John S. Sell Memorial Chapel or to Masonic Village Endowment Fund.
