Obituary of Harry E. Earhart

Harry B. Earhart, 97, of Manheim, PA went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2015 at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim following a decline in health. Born in Manheim, PA, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Clara Breigtigan Earhart. He was the husband of the late Helen M. Farmer Earhart for 72 years prior to her passing in 2013. Harry was a 1936 graduate of the former Manheim High School. During World War II, he traveled around the world as he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a sergeant. Following his military duty, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Elizabethtown College, a Master's degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master's degree from the University of Illinois in economics. He was an educator for 33 years in the Manheim Central High School and assistant principal for nine years. He also had part time employment for 35 years as a teller with the former Keystone National Bank and its successor, Fulton Bank, in Manheim. Harry was a longtime member of Calvary Church in Lancaster. He was a member of the Pennsylvania State Retired Educators Association and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Manheim. In his high school and college years, he enjoyed playing basketball and tennis. More recently, he enjoyed reading historical biographies and traveling. He is survived by three children, Earline E., wife of Dennis Oberholtzer, of Paradise, John E., husband of Vicki May Earhart, of Louisville, OH, and Nancy E., wife of Russell White, of Manheim; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Stancliff. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Manheim Fairview Cemetery, Manheim, PA with his grandson, Pastor Daniel Hanson, officiating. There will be no viewing. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Historic Manheim Train Station, 210 South Charlotte Street, Manheim, immediately following the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made to the mission fund of Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601-4887.
