Obituary of Douglas Detwiler

Douglas Detwiler, 62, of Manheim, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015 after losing his fight with cancer. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Jack E. and Patsy J. Evans Detwiler of Manheim. He was the husband of Billie Bilton for 18 years on March 10. Doug was a graduate of Manheim Central High School, having completed the welding program at Lancaster County Vocational Technical School. Following graduation, he began working as a welder for Heil Trailer International, eventually becoming plant manager of both the Lancaster and Texas manufacturing plants. He was a member of the American Welders Association for more than 20 years and featured in their publications for his contributions and accomplishments to his trade. He was also a member of the Sertoma Club in Manheim where he served as president in 1984-85. In addition to hunting and fishing, Doug enjoyed golfing and snow skiing. He is also survived by three children, Dustin, Danielle, and Devon Detwiler; two step children, Simon (Amber) Bray, and Dave (Becky) Bray; three step grandchildren; and two siblings, Linda (Rodger) Brown, and Barry Detwiler. He was preceded in death by a brother, Todd Detwiler. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA with Wayne Achey officiating. Interment will be private. There will be no viewing. The family will receive guests on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
