Obituary of Raymond J. "Blackie" Alcala

Raymond J. "Blackie" Alcala, Sr., 82, of Manheim, PA, formerly of Lebanon, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2015 at Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community in Manheim following a lengthy illness. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Manuel and Hattie Pauley Alcala. He and his wife, Fern L. Shreiner Alcala, were married for 50 years on November 11.
During the Korean War, Blackie served his country by serving as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He was employed by the former Raymark Corp. in the brake shoe department for 35 years. Later, he was employed by Hershey Foods at the Y&S Candies plant in Lancaster until his illness in 1992.
In addition to being an avid golfer, Blackie enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and the Manheim Central Barons football. He played baseball on local teams in his younger years. He was a member of the Germania Band Club in Manheim.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Raymond J., Jr., husband of Lisa Hershey Alcala, of Manheim, and Randall S., husband of Kim Baugher Becker, of Lititz; daughter-in-law, Karen Kelsey Becker, of Lititz,; four grandsons; one granddaughter; two great grandsons; and two great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Becker; and two brothers, Victor and Ralph Alcala.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Mount Hope Nazarene Retirement Community for the excellent care they provided.
Private services will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
