Obituary of Barton T. Ziegler

Barton T. Ziegler, 87, of Elizabethtown, PA, formerly of Boyertown, passed away on Tuesday evening, November 24, 2015 at Masonic Health Care Center. Born in Limerick, he was the son of the late Howard J. and Leah C. Taylor Ziegler. He and his wife, Arlene, would have been married for 66 years on December 3. Barton had a successful career as a salesman in the dairy agroindustry. He was employed as a salesman for nearly 30 years by Erb & Henry Equipment in Boyertown. Previously, he was a manufacturer's representative for 25 years for De Laval Separator Company in Poughkeepsie, NY. A 32 degree Mason, he was a 50 year member of Boyertown Lodge No. 741, F&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Reading. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Boyertown Chapter No. 444. In his younger years, he was involved in local politics as well as serving as president of the Spring-Ford School Board. His grandfather, Rev. Jesse Ziegler, was one of the founders and first chairman of the Board of Trustees of Elizabethtown College. In addition to having an extensive collection of coins and model tractors, Barton enjoyed many years of vacationing at Hilton Head. He was also a diehard Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Barton J., husband of Kathie J. Wilkinson Ziegler, of Elizabethtown, Glenn B. Ziegler of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Robert Scott Ziegler of Rio Vista, CA, and Barbara A., wife of John H. Payne, of Washington Crossing; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph S. Ziegler of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Leonard and Alton Ziegler, and Edith Borneman. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown. The family will receive guests immediately following the service. Please omit flowers.
