Obituary of Mary J. Sweigart

Mary J. Sweigart, 90, of Manheim, PA, formerly of Rheems, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, March 16, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in East Donegal Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Edna Koser Heisey. She was the wife of the late Richard A. Sweigart for 57 years prior to his passing in 2002.
Mary was the oldest female member of the Elizabethtown United Zion Church where she taught Sunday school in the primary department in her younger years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Elizabethtown Area School District in the cafeteria at Rheems Elementary School. Mary enjoyed crocheting and giving her creations to family and friends. She also had a passion for cooking holiday dinners and hosting family gatherings.
She was beloved by her children, Dr. James R., husband of Cindy E. Eisenbise Sweigart, of Columbia, SC, and Nancy J., wife of Richard H. Benson, of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Susannah, wife of Michael Burgess, Lindsey, wife of Justin Swann, and Shawn, husband of Kayla Sweigart; three great grandchildren; and four siblings, Richard, husband of Ethel Heisey, of Mount Joy, Betty Greiner of Manheim, Ellen Wolgemuth of Mount Joy, and Nancy, wife of Kenneth Erisman, of Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by three siblings, Leroy Heisey, Charles Heisey, and Anna Martha Yeatts.
A memorial service will be held on Monday morning, March 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Elizabethtown United Zion Church, 401 East Park Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Pastor Kenneth Witman officiating. Private interment will be in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown. The family will receive guests at a viewing at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2-4:00 PM. There will be no viewing on Monday. The family will also receive guests at a luncheon at the church immediately following the service. Please omit flowers. If desired, contributions may be made to Elizabethtown United Zion Church.
