Obituary of Dorothy G. Sauder

Dorothy G. Sauder, 90, of Manheim, PA, passed on peacefully to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday morning, June 4, 2016 at Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rapho Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late David S. and Katie D. Gibble Shenk. She was the wife of Lewis D. Sauder for 72 years on April 16. Dorothy was a faithful member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim. Before marriage, she was employed by the former Naugle Garment Factory in Manheim. She later tended Zimmerman's market stand and other stands at Root's Country Market for many years. She poured herself into caring for and nurturing her family by gardening, preserving hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables annually, and cooking. Her gifts of hospitality and service made her home and table always welcoming to guests. She and her husband traveled extensively in the continental United States and Alaska, with her favorite travel destination being Florida. Dorothy also enjoyed quilting and playing marble board games. In addition to her husband, she is survived by seven children, David, husband of June Whitsel Sauder, of Elizabethtown, Abraham, husband of Bonnie Miller Sauder, of Schwenksville, Lester, husband of Krista Smith Sauder, of Manheim, Rosanne, wife of Irving Fritz, of Manheim, Barry, husband of Bobbe Landis Sauder, of Manheim, Deborah, wife of Doug Krasley, of Ephrata, and Bonnie, wife of Clair Hoover, of Manheim; a son-in-law, Larry Sawadsky of Elizabethtown; 23 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; two great great grandsons; and two siblings, Clayton Shenk of Palmyra, and Betty, wife of Elvin Snavely, of Manheim. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Sawadsky, and three brothers, Jay, Howard, and David Shenk. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:45 PM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA. Interment will follow in the adjacent cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Saturday afternoon from 1:00-2:30 PM.
