Obituary of Alverta G. Kipp

Alverta G. Kipp, 95, of Manheim, PA, went home to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, July 8, 2016 at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz where she was a guest for four months. She lived on Hart Street in Manheim for 67 years in the home she and her husband built. Born in Silver Spring, PA, she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Gertrude Brandt Waser. Alverta was the loving wife of J. Clarence Kipp for 72 years prior to his passing in 2014. Alverta was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Manheim and a former longtime member of Grace EC Church in East Petersburg. She provided child care in her home for over 40 years to children who affectionately referred to her as "Mrs. Kipp." Earlier, she was employed by the former Wilbur-Suchard Chocolate Company in Lititz and in the dining room at the former Crippled Children's Hospital in Elizabethtown. Alverta was a fantastic baker and preserved delicious fruits and vegetables for her family. She enjoyed picking boxes and boxes of strawberries each season, raised gladiolas and loved tending over 80 rose bushes in her garden. The family wishes to thank the staff of United Zion Retirement Community for their compassionate care given to Alverta during her declining health. She is survived by three children, Clarence "Johnny" Kipp, husband of Susie Rochel, of Manheim, Rodney R., husband of Donna Kipp, of Beverly Hills, FL, and Suzanne K., wife of Charles T. Houck, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Adam Charles Houck and Alycia Suzanne Houck; and four siblings, Minerva Dickenson of Maytown, Jane Gehman of Mount Joy, Arlene Houck of Marietta, and John, husband of Janet Waser of Lancaster. She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Monroe "Bud" Waser, Jr., Betty Rhoades, and Charles Waser. A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, July 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim, PA 17545 with Pastor Jeff Schell officiating. Interment will follow in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery in Manheim. The family will receive guests at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
