Albert H. Rhen, 92, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 27, 2016 at Mennonite Home following a lengthy illness. Born in Lebanon County, he was the son of the late Curtis and Jennie Minich Rhen. He was the husband of Grace E. Miller Rhen for 66 years on June 24. Al was a faithful member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown where he served on the Church Council and several other committees. During World War II, he served his country as a corporal in the United States Air Force European Theatre. Prior to retiring in 1990, he was employed as a machinist by AMP/TYCO in the Elizabethtown and Mount Joy plants. An avid hunter, Al was a member of the AMP Nimrod Hunting Club and a life-member of the Milton Grove Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting at the Milton Grove Lodge in Lycoming County and goose hunting in Maryland. In his younger years, he was a Boy Scout leader in Elizabethtown for several years. His other interests included woodworking, watching sporting events, and time spent with his family. The family extends appreciation to the staff of Mennonite Home for the fine care that was provided to Al and to the family during his stay there. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Pastor James H., husband of Janet L. Kurtz Rhen, of Manheim, and Denise A., wife of Gregory S. Zerphey, of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, Andrea Zerphey, mother of Alexis, of Elizabethtown, Jordan Zerphey of Elizabethtown, Zachary Zerphey, husband of Jessica and parents of Walker, of Elizabethtown, Jessica Shakely, wife of Ryan and parents of Katherine and Evelyn, of Hummelstown, and Natasha Rhen of India; and a sister, Elizabeth, wife of James Eckman, of Elizabethtown. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Richard Rhen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 75 East High Street, Elizabethtown. Private interment will be in West Green Tree Brethren Cemetery, Elizabethtown. There will be no public viewing. The family will greet guests during a luncheon reception at the church immediately following the service. Please omit flowers.
