Obituary of Robert L. Herr

Robert L. Herr, 79, of Hershey, PA, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, October 18, 2016 at Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in South Annville Twp., Lebanon Co., he was the son of the late Lloyd V. and Martha E. Cave Herr. He was the husband of Ruthanne Landvater Herr for 58 years on February 27.
Bob was a member of Conewago Church of the Brethren in Hershey for 51 years where he served as a life-time deacon and custodian. More recently, he was attending Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren. He was a 1955 graduate of the former Cornwall High School where he was active with the FFA program and participated in the school plays. Prior to retiring, he was employed for 44 years in the press room as a machine operator by Hershey Foods. He was a member of the Chocolate Workers' Union Local No. 464. He also worked part-time as a janitor at Twin Kiss restaurant in Palmyra.
In addition to gardening, attending public auctions, and collecting pencils, Bob enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music, traveling, and spending winters in North Myrtle Beach, NC and Sarasota, FL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Debra, wife of Andy Smith, of Hershey, Diane, wife of Barry Myers, of Elizabethtown, Dennis, husband of Jeany Lauver Herr, of Lebanon, Duane, husband of Beth McBratney Herr, of Lawn, Dawn Herr of Harrisburg, and Darla, wife of Michael Johnson, of Harrisburg; a foster son, Dave, husband of Beverly Eberly Stauffer, of Ickesburg; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Carl, husband of Alma Herr, of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Lee Herr; and two siblings, Arlene Carmany and Kenneth Herr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Mount Wilson Church of the Brethren, 1261 Mount Wilson Road, Lebanon, PA. The family will receive guests at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. All are invited to a luncheon at the church immediately following the service followed by interment in Hanoverdale Brethren Cemetery, Hummelstown. Please omit flowers.
