Obituary of Verna Grace Nissley

Verna Grace Nissley, 78, of Elizabethtown, PA, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2016 at the Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. Born in West Donegal Twp., Lancaster Co., she was the daughter of the late Paul L. and Anna E. Landis Zeager. She was the wife of the late J. Luke Nissley who died September 29, 1969 after 11 years of marriage. Verna was an active member of Good's Mennonite Church in Bainbridge where she was the president of the sewing circle for more than 40 years. She made scores of quilts over the years, many which were sold at Kraybill Mennonite School Benefit Auction over a period of 30 years. Verna enjoyed her grandchildren and had a great impact on their lives, as well as the lives of others. She cherished friendships and relationships and extended encouragement through cards and notes. She is survived by four children, Carolyn L., wife of Leon S. Stoltzfus, of New Holland, John L., husband of Holly A. Forney Nissley, of Elizabethtown, Judy E., wife of Joe E. Rohrer, of Lancaster, and Steven P., husband of Grace H. Dodzweit Nissley, of Newmanstown; a daughter-in-law, Susan A. Hoover Nissley, wife of the late James Luke Nissley, of Elizabethtown; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and nine siblings, Anna J. Kamoda of Monongahela, J. Frank Zeager, of Lititz, G. Herbert, husband of Orpha I. Zeager, of Elizabethtown, Ethel M. Pannell of Harlem, NY, Arlene E., wife of Christian Becker, of Elizabethtown, John A., husband of Rachel Zeager, of Elizabethtown, Charles B., husband of Jan Zeager, of Middletown, P. Thomas, husband of Helen Zeager, of Hopeland, and Harvey D. Zeager of Golden, CO. In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Kristina Lynn Stoltzfus; and seven siblings, James, Russel, Paul, William, and David Zeager, Mary Ruth Espenshade, and Almeda Heisey. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Good's Mennonite Church, 4374 Bossler Road, Bainbridge, PA 17502. Interment will be in Good's Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Friday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
