Obituary of Doris J. Byrne

Doris J. Byrne, 81, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in St. Mary's, GA while on vacation. Born in Mount Joy Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Miriam Shaffner Emenheiser. She was the wife of the late James V. Byrne, Sr. for 54 years prior to his passing in 2011.
A homemaker, Doris was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. She was employed by Continental Press in Elizabethtown where she was a silk screener and office worker. Driving bus for Elizabethtown Area School District sports teams and driving van for Masonic Village suited her love of driving. Doris also enjoyed playing, coaching, and officiating softball. She was a PIAA umpire. Additionally, she was also an excellent golfer, a tough Senior Olympic competitor, an extensive traveler, and a generous volunteer at Masonic Village. In her younger years, she qualified for the pro bowling tour. Above all, family time was extremely important to Doris.
She is survived by two children, James V., Jr., husband of Lori J. Meinhardt Byrne, of Lancaster, and Debra A., wife of Daniel I Brockman, of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Ashley, Sean, Kyle, and Ian; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth, husband of Pauline Emenheiser, of Bayse, VA. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Richard, and Donald Emenheiser. The family wishes to acknowledge the support and companionship Kenneth Raub provided Doris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning, February 10, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 904 Mill Road, Elizabethtown with Fr. David Danneker and Deacon Mr. Joshua Cavender as celebrants. Private interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers.
