Gladys A. Rittenhouse, 96, of Worcester, PA, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2017 at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. Gladys was the daughter of the late Norman and Clarella Dresher Anders and was born at home and raised on the property that would eventually become Freddy Hill Farms. She lived in the Lansdale area her entire life. She was the wife of the late Sylvanus S. Rittenhouse, Jr. who passed in 2014. A homemaker, Gladys was a lifelong member of Central Schwenkfelder Church in Lansdale where she was active with the Ladies Aid and quilting group. She was also known for creating beautiful cross stitched works of art that sold at the church's annual Country Auction. She was a graduate of Lansdale High School and Lansdale School of Business. She met her future husband while roller skating. They were eventually married while he was serving his country during World War II. In her younger years, Gladys meticulously tinted photos when photos were only black and white. In addition to enjoying sewing, traveling, and flower gardening, she was an excellent cook and fine pianist. She was nearly always a member of a card club and enjoyed playing pinochle. She is survived by three daughters, Joanne R., wife of Dean Thomas, of Lancaster, Susan L., wife of William C. Davis, Jr., of Elizabethtown, and Carol E., wife of Roger Sheets, of Pagosa Springs, CO; and a grandson, Peter, husband of Caroline Davis, of Chevy Chase, MD.
