Obituary of Howard R. "Chub" Rhinier

Howard R. "Chub" Rhinier, 79, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Saturday morning, April 29, 2017 at Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center of Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy following a long illness. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Howard E. and Evelyn Floyd Rhinier. He was the husband of the late Jo Ann Nelson Rhinier for 55 years before her passing in 2016. Chub enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1956 and was stationed on the DDE (Destroyer Escort) #847, Portsmouth, VA until he was honorably discharged in October 1960 as a torpedoman. He was a dedicated warehouse worker for the former Penn Supreme Dairy and its successor, Kemps Foods, for 47 years. During his tenure, he only missed three days of work. He was Chief Union Shop Steward for many years before becoming an elected officer in Teamsters Local Union #771 Executive Board. In addition to hunting and fishing, Chub enjoyed playing golf. In his younger years, he won many competitions drag racing and also enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a proud part owner of the property at Tom Mix's "King of the Cowboys" birthplace park in Mix Run, PA. Chub was also a support member of Wounded Warriors Project. He is survived by four children, Deborah J., wife of David Tobolski, of Lititz, Howard W., husband of Sheri Rhinier, James N., husband of Carolyn Rhinier, and Julie A. Ross, all of Lancaster; six grandchildren; and a great grandson, James Keefe. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gloria Work and Mabel G. Rittenhouse. Services are private.
