Obituary of Karen E. Shuman

Karen E. Shuman, 79, of Lebanon, PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, July 12, 2017 at Hershey Medical Center. Born in Grand Rapids, MI, she was the daughter of the late Leon F. and Laura W. Schantz House. She was the wife of John A. Shuman, Jr. They would have been married for 53 years on July 18. Karen loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Chiques Church of the Brethren in Manheim. She served the Chiques and Mount Olivet Churches as a deaconess. She selflessly gave of herself to love and to care for her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, John L., husband of Reba F. Keener Shuman, of Mount Joy, Dr. Joel L. Shuman of Blacksburg, VA, and Susan C., wife of Lawrence P. Terrell, of Wallingford; seven grandchildren, including Katie, Ryan, and Patricia Farrell who she and John were raising; and two siblings, David W., husband of Linda House, of Orlando, FL, and Leonore F. Mehs of Priest River, ID. She was preceded in death by infant twin sons, a daughter, Teresa A. Farrell; a son-in-law, Patrick A. "Mac" Farrell; an infant granddaughter, Kirsten L. Farrell; her step mother, Naida House; and a sister, Marcia Smith. A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Chiques Church of the Brethren, 4045 Sunnyside Road, Manheim, PA 17545. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at a viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.
