Obituary of David E. Gibble

David E. "Butch" Gibble, 85, of Manheim, PA, entered into rest at Signature Senior Living in Lititz on Monday morning, September 18, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Frank S. and Mary Earhart Gibble. He was the husband of Sandra J. Long Gibble for 59 years on December 7.
David was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Lititz. For many years, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manheim where he served as an usher. During the Korean War, he served his country in the United States Navy. He retired in 1994 from Wilbur Chocolate Company in Lititz where he was a machine operator. Previously, he was employed as a supervisor by the former Raymark in Manheim. David was best known around Manheim as being a self-employed barber for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, and the Harrisburg Consistory. Additionally, he belonged to the VFW, American Legion, Sertoma Club, and the Stiegel Gun Club in Potter County. He was an avid golfer and lived in Fort Myers, Florida for 10 years following retirement. David enjoyed watching the Philadelphia sports teams and following Manheim Baron Football. He especially found pleasure in being involved with the activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was "a friend to all."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, David M., husband of Polly Felice Gibble, of Wernersville, Sharon J., wife of Steven C. Haines, of Willow Street, and Michelle F. Meyers of Saugerties, NY; four grandchildren, Melissa Reynolds, Randall Haines, Nathaniel Meyers, and Rachel Meyers; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Shuey of Rheems. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Gibble.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 222 North Broad Street, Lititz, PA 17543. There will be no public viewing. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. The family will receive guests at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers. If desired, contributions may be made in his memory to St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
