Obituary of Luke B. Pierce

Luke B. Pierce, 81, of Marietta, PA, formerly of Mount Joy, entered the presence of his heavenly Father on Friday evening, September 22, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Penryn, PA, he was the son of the late Sylvester S., Sr. and Dorothy Brown Pierce. He was the husband of Anna Mae Greenly Pierce for 59 years on March 15. Luke was an active member of Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church in Mount Joy where he was active with the Golden Nuggets fellowship group. Prior to retiring in May 2013, he was employed milking dairy cattle by various dairy farmers in the area. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed listening to Gospel music, knitting hats, embroidering, reading, gardening, and growing flowers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Shirley, wife of Merle Groff, Jr., of Manheim, Lois Pierce of Mount Joy, Linda, wife of Barth Bailey, Jr., of Lititz, Brenda, wife of Melvin Greenawalt, of Elizabethtown, and Kenneth, husband of Nila Brubaker Pierce, of Mount Joy; nine grandchildren; and four siblings, Mark Pierce, Reba Deck, Mary Boyer, and Jeanette Shreiner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jay Pierce, Richard Pierce, and Sylvester Pierce, Jr. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church, 1756 Mount Pleasant Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 with Pastor John Keefer officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Monday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family requests that flowers please be omitted. If desired, contributions may be made to Mount Pleasant Brethren in Christ Church.
